Federal Oversight of Hydrofracking Bill Introduced

Legislation has been introduced in the U.S. Congress that would allow the EPA to regulate hydrofracking under the Safe Drinking Water Act.

California State Senate To Consider Water Softener Ban

RIGWA Member Larry Casey from Aqua Science, Inc. has provided the RIGWA with information on legislation before the California State Senate. The legislation would allow county governments in California to ban water softeners.

Transition of the Massachusetts Well Driller Registration Program

The Massachusetts Well Driller Registration Program will be moving from the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) to the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) on October 1, 2009.

Laurene Poland from the DCR and Paul Blain from the DEP spoke at the Massachusetts Ground Water Association meeting on May 12, 2009 and mentioned the following:

• There will be no major changes to the Commonwealth's Well Drilling  Regulations for at least the next 12 - 18 months.

• The DEP is working on a computer program so that Well Completion Reports can be submitted online after October 1st via the eDEP Program.

• The DEP will be offering a training course on how to use the eDEP program once the program configuration is completed.

• The DEP has set up a webpage for the Well Driller Registration Program. This website can be accessed at: http://www.mass.gov/dep/water/drinking/welldril.htm
