Rhode Island Ground Water Association

Urgent Notice - Flooded Wells

The Rhode Island Ground Water Association is encouraging all private well owners to have their well water tested for coliform bacteria after last month's record-setting rainstorm.

Flood conditions can allow bacterial, viral, parasite, or chemical contamination to enter the top of your well or seep down along your well casing. Even if flood water did not rise over the top of your well casing, a neighboring well may have been flooded, which may allow contamination to migrate underground to your well.

Please see our Flooded Well Information page for more information.
